Dylan CTK Jones is a hip hop artist and story teller from Yellowknife, NT. Born and raised in the Canadian Arctic, he has developed a passion for the culture and preservation of his home, the North. Growing up in the isolated northern community of Fort Good Hope, NT, Dylan has taken the role of being a voice for the hardship and beauty of a more rugged way of life.. Now an independent artist, Dylan brings his Métis culture and love of home to a broader audience, while touching on the preservation and current social destruction of both.
Artist’s Statement:
.
At 16 I left home, headed south and found myself completely lost in a whole new world. When I was out there, making music wasn't an option as I had nothing and no place to go. In between jobs and ideas, I had taught myself to write rap while sitting in a truck at work and wouldn't show a single person until I felt confident it was something.
"Staring out my window through cracks in the broken glass - I picture a sunny day with old friends and tall grass - whole family's sittin’ together now as we laugh - just kids at the cabin watching dad pull in his nets-"
